Who runs HouseCheckup

Last updated:

HouseCheckup is run by Bertram Sargla, its founder.

“I started HouseCheckup because so much of what a buyer should know before making an offer is already on the public record — flood maps, geological data, planning history, energy certificates — but it's spread across dozens of official sources, and nobody should need a week of evenings to piece it together.”

— Bertram Sargla

HouseCheckup prepares property reports for people buying a home in England, Wales and Scotland. A report brings the official public records for one address together in one document and explains what they mean, so you can see what deserves a closer look before you make an offer.

How a report is produced

  • Human-checked and emailed to you, within 24 hours, usually faster.
  • Complete reports include the checks a person runs by hand for your address — the registers with no API, looked up and written up for this property.
  • Where a check cannot be run at your address, the report names it rather than treating it as a pass.

The full method is on how a report is built, and recent changes are listed on what's new.

Questions about a report

Bought a report? Questions about it are answered free. Reply to the email your report arrives in and we will explain any finding, show you the underlying source, or dig further into anything it flagged — for the property in your report. It is not a survey, a valuation or legal advice, and we will tell you plainly when a question needs a surveyor or your solicitor.
